The pacing doesn’t work for me, but I think I just read at a less leisurely clip nowadays. For a comic that was DC’s first for mature readers, it felt very immature – let’s mix Arthurian legend with the future and an alien invasion and it’ll be cool.

Guinevere in her modern form is the commander of Earth defenses and a warrior in her own right. Readers sepaol expect a lot in plot. Brian Bolland is a really great artist but he doesn’t do anything approaching spectacular until the las I think if it was and I eapaol a hormonal 12 year old and had just watched John Boorman’s Excalibur and was really getting into the Arthurian legend stuff, but also liked futuristic space adventure and illustrations of scantily clad warrior-women, then this probably would have received 4 stars.

Partly this is because it does not have the same detail as his work in black and white does – Bryan Talbot is another good example of someone whose work I prefer in black and white because so much more goes into it. The story is quite obviously dated, but if you keep in mind that it was written in the 80s, you can easily see how it refused to conform to stereotypes and it’s still really nice to see that Sir Gawain didn’t die first, I’m just saying.

I’ll be rereading this, I’m sure, knowing the historical significance of the book as a forerunner of what s comics became. He is reunited with Merlin, six of his knights, Guinevere and a young man who who awakens him Tom. Sorry, I do not want to make this review political, but good storytelling will always relate and bridge to the world we live in, no matter how far in time.
About the rest of the comic: It was interesting to see his struggle and I was extremely relieved that Tristan didn’t accept the love of the main character who wanted Tristan to simply get over it and be a woman, thank you, offensive!
