Couture Sewing Techniques by Claire B. I would like to learn about finishing the inside of the garment.
I had lessons many years ago but it is time to take things to a higher standard. I’d like to learn more about finishing professional looking insides of garments.
The value of Couture Sewing Techniques is in its finishes and unusual little extra steps such as sewing beads to a zippernot in its explanations of common sewing techniques such as kick pleats or facings my favourite book for this is Connie Amaden-Crawford’s Guide to Fashion Sewing. I have had a chance to look at her and it would be a wonderful addition to everyone’s sewing library. I have several of her books in my library and have thoroughly enjoyed them.
The recent one on Balenciaga was fantastic, I particularly noted the straps to top a wrap-back falling off shoulders There’s so many couture sewing techniques that I would like to learn that I don’t know where to start.
I also tailor coutre my husband’s shirts. More attention bu photos and diagrams should have been placed. By the time I’ve altered the garment shell to fit, I’m befuddled about how large an area to pad and how to make all the changes in the linings.

I have her fabric guide and use it regularly. Would you like to tell us about a lower price?
I can’t tell you how often I have used the couture sewing techniques in the magazines and would absolutely treasure Claire Shaeffer’s book. My ‘to learn’ list for sewing techniques has also grown exponentially. Overall review of couture techniques yes How to get the desired results no. I love to see how it is done!
I so welcome the new interest in timeless techniques, that is rare to find students interested in time consuming technical sewing, So I have been out hunting at second hand book stores trying to find books for them with no luck. I love this book! I am in awe of the amount of work, the careful attention to the tiniest of details and the “invisible” elements of construction that elevate clothing to couture.
I look forward to one day owning this book.
